The pioneer in the field of performance-oriented athletes, Under Armour could not stay out of the running world. It all started with the observation of Kevin Plank, the head of the University of Maryland football teams, that cotton jerseys hindered athletes' performance as they stored moisture and carried unnecessary weight. In 1998, he moved to Baltimore, Maryland, while only in 2006 did he launch the first line of football shoes.
